A 24-carat profession. The profession of CA has been sustaining its 24-carat purity for many years. A plus two Passed student can take up this profession with full Confidence. An organization, which essentially deals with Finance cannot rule out the role of Chartered accountant whether the organization is in the phase of financial prosperity or hardship.

Once you become a CA you can either apply for a job in a business organization as an accountant or employed as an investment or strategic planner or self-practice accountant professional. By the account of 2018, there are around one lakh CA professionals working across the country. India’s economy is in the phase of advancement which in all probability increase job opportunities.

One can join for CA course either through foundation or Direct entry.

Foundation

After the completion of plus two one can register for the foundation course. Only after four months of study one could appear for foundation exam which means one must have registered before June 30 to write exam in the month of November or December 31 to appear for the May examination.

One should have passed plus two before appearing for exam. Foundation paper comprised of 4 papers wherein two papers are of descriptive and other two papers objective which is having negative marks.

Intermediate

Students who passed the foundation exam can register for intermediate. After registering one should study for 8 months to write inter exam. Inter exam consists of 8 papers which are divided into two groups and each paper is valued for 100 marks and the pass mark for each paper to be fixed is 40 and the overall mark or percentage for each group fixed to be 50. A student should either be passed a single group or both groups to commence articleship which is a compulsory internship program of 3 years a student has to undergo before appearing for CA final. Before commencing articleship a student must go through a 15 days orientation program and information technology training program at the institute.

Direct entry scheme

Commerce graduates with 55 percent applying for intermediate is known as direct entry. Eligibility for direct entry schemes are

  1. Commerce graduates with 55 percent or
  2. Post-graduation in commerce with 60 percent mark or
  3. Students who passed CS executive and CMA intermediate.

Students who are in the final year of B.Com can register for intermediate. But for commencing articleship as abovementioned procedure of going through IT and orientation program necessary. One can appear for the exam after 9 months from the date of commencing articleship. Once a student clear intermediate, he/she can sit for finals complying procedure as is applicable to students who come from clearing foundation exam and intermediate. Once the final is cleared, he/she can seek membership from ICAI.

CA final

Before appearing CA final exam one must have gone through the IT course being conducted by ICAI. Final group consists of 8 papers which is again divided into two groups. Once a student passes both groups he/she can apply for membership with ICAI.

Articleship

It is a 3-year practical training program a student receive from an experienced practicing chartered accountant.

3 years of Articleship gives a CA student vital inputs on the profession of chartered accountancy. It enables a student to visit many business organisations with a chartered accountant and learn different facets of audit from the senior which in turn helps a student in CA Final examination and further practice of his profession. During the period of Articleship a student is entitled to get a specific amount of money as stipend as specified by ICAI which makes this profession a distinct one from other professions in the world.
